The seaside resort Follonica lies in the gulf of the same name, on the border of the Province of Grosseto to the Province of Livorno. Thanks to the gulf current and protected by the Island of Elba, lying right in front, Follonica boasts also during the winter months of a mild  and pleasant climate.

Quite particular and at the same time pleasant is the location of the centre - with boutiques and shops of any type, restaurants, trattorias and wine bars - next to the seafront. The kilometer long promenade invites for walking, jogging or rollerblading. At a nearly never-ending long beach one can rent beach umbrellas and deck chairs at the bathing establishments or bring ones on to the beaches that are free of charge. A seaside resorts offers of course also the possibility of any kind of water sports and on the spot there are also several schools (diving, surf, kitesurf, sailing etc.).

Beautiful inlets like Cala Martina or Cala Violina, the most renowned of the area, are just a few kilometers further south and can be reached only on foot or by bike or, from the sea.
As seaside resort, Follonica has during the summer months, that is from mid/end June until the end of August in the centre a pleasant night life: shops open until midnight, bars and restaurants everywhere and open-air discos as well as concerts or cultural events. In the winter, Follonica is quite peaceful and guests can enjoy a beautiful desert beach.

Besides the sea, from Follonica one can reach within short time by car characteristic places such as Scarlino (7 km), the elegant Punta Ala (18 km), Castiglione della Pescaia (18 km) or Massa Marittima (19 km). In less than one hour by car one can reach towards south, Grosseto, the Parco Naturale della Maremma, Monte Argentario with Porto Santo Stefano (ferry to Giglio) and Porto Ercole. Towards north one can reach the Gulf of Baratti, Populonia and Piombino from where it is possible to reach the Island of Elba. Of course, it is also possible to reach all those famous places of artistic and cultural interest in Tuscany for daily visits.
